The Meaning of 2012
In this first installment, I would like to discuss the meaning of 2012. What is the spiritual meaning connected with
this year in human evolution? To begin, I would like to quote the Wikipedia, “2012 is sometimes claimed to be a
great year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the
thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most
widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.[who?]
Accordingly, several eclectic authors claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:
- The 1997 book The Bible Code claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, an
asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.
- The 2006 book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck discusses theories of a possible
global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a noosphere.
Other prophecies and apocalyptic writings and hypotheses for this year include:
- Terence McKenna's numerological novelty theory suggests a point of singularity in which humankind
will go through a great shift in consciousness.”
- Wow! Sounds pretty exciting! So reviewing this I wonder if this is going to be a singular event or will
there be a building up to the climax of it? There seems to be a spiritual transformation happening right
now. Yes, there are still many people who are ‘asleep’, who have not yet awoken to their true spiritual side.
But I’ve noticed changes in my communications with others. For instance, when did it become cool to talk
about our spiritual connection to Source? Also, have you noticed how many people smile and say hello for
no reason as you pass them? It’s as though we are all remembering we are One, happily greeting friends we
have forgotten.
- So I’m thinking that we are actually witnessing a building up of events to this ultimate date. As we
speak, global warming is increasing at an alarming rate. Our seas are warming, ice shelves melting, climate is
changing, ancient volcanoes are becoming active, numerous earthquakes are appearing worldwide and the list
goes on. We know how this is affecting us on a physical level, but what is going on in the spiritual arena?
Well, for one thing, tragedy seems to awaken the human mind to a higher connection and also the inner
feeling of reaching out to help those in need. Also, there is a large movement these days with going ‘green’.
So are we gaining ground on our spiritual development due to these physical events? It seems that way.
- Reviewing the above info, it appears that the Maya have it nailed right at December 21, 2012. But they
are vague as to what is to happen. Can it be that we are going to experience a major transformation in our
existence no matter what, but how that transformation takes place is still in our hands? I believe this to be a
very possible answer. Let me explain my thoughts. Firstly, I think most of us accept that whatever the
situation we are in, we always have free-will to decide how we perceive it, and what our actions will be. So
with this free-will in mind, we decide to begin or continue our awakening and unfolding processes moving
toward this particular date. When we see people in distress, we can comfort them either physically or if not
close by sending them love and hope. As we touch each individual, their awareness will begin to open up to
the possibilities that we see. Also, pay attention to the Earth too, as it also has spirit and awareness. (I will
cover thoughts on spiritual awareness in another article)
- How does this affect how events may carry themselves out on 12/21? One theory holds that if we grow
in our spiritual awareness quickly enough that the transformation will be an easy one. We will have already
done the work!
- Well, that is the positive spin on this subject, assuming that anything at all is going to happen. Now let’s
take a look at other potential scenarios. What if we grow a little too slowly? Could it be that there will be
the apocalyptic wars that the Bible hints at in Revelations? Will global warming continue to a point of the
earth no longer being capable of sustaining human life? And, even if we shift our consciousness to a higher
level, what if a comet hits the planet anyways? Should we live in fear of the worst happening?
- There is something very important to remember here. We have been taught that we are physical beings
reaching out and attempting to have a spiritual experience, whereas in reality it’s the other way around; we
are spiritual beings having a physical experience! Hmm… How does that last statement affect our perception
upon this matter? It certainly lessens my fears of the future events to some extent. If I view my soul as
eternal, than this reality is a learning ground for the natural progression of it. How does this play in the role
of upcoming events? I believe we are here to do our soul work now, much more than we have in the past.
2012 is a time of great transformation in human enlightenment. Those of us who have awakened must carry
the light and the love and shine brightly for the rest of the world to see, bright enough to wake up the rest of
humanity. If the Earth is to witness cataclysmic events, we will shower her with love and help her through
her birthing pains as she too is moving with us through this transformation. We as spirits will survive.
Some of us may pass through the veil into the spirit world while others of us will remain here to witness the
transformation in the physical.
- Whatever the outcome, these are certainly extremely exciting times to be living in! There is no time for
fear as we continue to shower each other and the planet and all with love, peace, awareness, appreciation and
light. Move toward 2012 with anticipation and joy! Find happiness in everything and praise and bless all
events in your lives. Be thankful for everything you have and the chance to live during this time period.
Explore new ways of helping each other to heal and grow. Sow seeds of love wherever you go and watch
people and animals smile as they experience your awareness and allow themselves to open up to the light.
